This Hi-Beat 36000 watch shares the same Evolution 9 design as the celebrated ‘White Birch’ SLGH005 but is presented with a black dial that captures the atmosphere of the white birch tree forests on the Hiraniwa Plateau at night. These forests cover some 400 hectares and are located near the studio in Shizukuishi where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted.

Its powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers ensure perfect legibility. Its Zaratsu polished, distortion-free mirror finish and delicate hairline finish alternate to give the case a quiet and harmonious glow. The case has wide lugs and a low center of gravity that ensure that the watch sits easily and securely on the wrist.
This high-beat watch is powered by the revolutionary Caliber 9SA5, which offers a power reserve of 80 hours thanks to the high efficiency of Grand Seiko’s unique Dual Impulse Escapement and the high power generation of the twin barrels.

Unveiled in 2017, the original SBGJ227 “Peacock” was an immediate hit with watch collectors who fell in love with its distinctive green dial and pattern inspired by the peacock’s feathers. Today at COUTURE, Grand Seiko Corporation of America is proud to reintroduce the Peacock, this time as a U.S. Limited Edition of 500 pieces with a mesmerizing blue and purple dial.

The dial of SBGJ261 features a texture achieved through an intricate press patterning process. The effect, radiating from the dial’s center, is immediately eye-catching, recalling the vibrant plumage of a peacock’s train. Multi-faceted indexes and razor-edged hands offer high legibility, as well as a contrasting GMT hand for tracking an additional time zone. A dual-curved sapphire tops the dial.

The 44GS case was first introduced in 1967, establishing the design profile that came to be known as the Grand Seiko Style. In 2013, Grand Seiko unveiled the modern interpretation of the 44GS, created by Grand Seiko designer Nobuhiro Kosugi. 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of the original 44GS design.

Powering the watch is Hi-Beat GMT caliber 9S86, a movement assembled by the craftsmen and women of Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the homeplace of all Grand Seiko mechanical watches. The caliber has an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day (when static), a beat rate of 36,000 bph, and a power reserve of 55 hours. Additionally, the GMT hand allows for the tracking of a second time zone, with the hour hand being independently adjustable.

The Zen-like calm of the bamboo grove at the Nezu Museum and Garden is the inspiration for the new U.S. Limited Edition SBGJ259, with its distinct striated bright green patterned dial and yellow GMT hand. Enclosed in a contemporary reinterpretation of the acclaimed 44GS design, the case offers highly polished, distortion-free surfaces, razor-edged hands for high legibility, and perfect comfort on the wrist.

2022 marks the 55^th anniversary of the original 44GS, a design that introduced the Grand Seiko Style. It is a foundational timepiece, informing Grand Seiko design for the nearly six decades that followed. SBGJ259 employs the modern interpretation of the 44GS, first introduced in 2013. Measuring 40mm in diameter and 14mm in thickness, it is rendered in stainless steel, and it features an angular form with broad lugs and distortion-free surfaces throughout. In profile, one can see the gentle curvature of the mid-case and the taper of the lugs, a critical design detail that allows for a very comfortable fit when worn.

SBGP017 - The 55th anniversary of the 44GS design is celebrated in a watch inspired by the sea of clouds in Shinshu.

The 1967 44GS was the watch that first embodied the design grammar known as the “Grand Seiko Style”, the set of nine principles which gave Grand Seiko its distinctive look and which still inspires every new creation today. As part of the year-long celebration of the 55th anniversary of the 44GS, SBGP017 embodies the spirit of this seminal 1967 design and offers a remarkable precision rate of +5 to -5 seconds per year.The dial is as remarkable as the caliber that delivers this exceptional accuracy. It has the texture of the sea of clouds that form around the mountains on some mornings in the Shinshu region where this and all Grand Seiko quartz watches are made. Sometimes, the air is so still and humid that dense clouds gather and overlap to create a sea of clouds above Shinshu’s lowlands that stretches away to the horizon in every direction and that is tinged with blue, reflected down from the clear skies above them.

The watch is powered by a specially enhanced version of Caliber 9F85 that is accurate to +5 to -5 seconds a year. This high precision rate is achieved by the use of quartz crystals that are aged and then individually selected for their particular performance characteristics. The same commitment to precision is expressed in every aspect of the watch’s functionality. It has a time difference adjustment function that allows the hour hand to be moved without stopping the seconds hand, thus preserving its high precision when the wearer changes time zones. A backlash auto-adjust mechanism eliminates any shudder in the seconds hand. The date changes in the blink of an eye. A twin-pulse control motor allows the minute and seconds hands to be longer and thicker so that the exact time can be read with ease.

This SBGW289 limited edition celebrates the 55th anniversary of the celebrated 44GS, the watch that, in 1967, was the first to embody the Grand Seiko Style, the philosophy that has guided the design of every subsequent Grand Seko watch. At 36.5 mm in diameter and 11.6 mm in thickness, it is compact and easy to wear thanks to slimness of the manual winding Caliber 9S64.

The combination of a flat dial and a wide opening lets light pour in and allows the razor-edged, multi-faceted indexes and hour and minute hands to show their brilliance, thus making the time easy to read. The dial has the texture and delicate pink color of the new cherry blossom when it is covered with snow. The ephemeral beauty of this early Spring phenomenon is greatly appreciated in Japan. It is known as Sakura-kakushi, which means ‘the hiding of the cherry blossom’.

Light, shadow and texture

The Grand Seiko Style that the 1967 44GS embodied has nine separate elements that govern the design of every detail of the watch, from the angle of the case to the shape of the 12 o’clock index and the flatness of the dial. All are clearly in evidence here and contribute to the special “sparkle of quality” that defines Grand Seiko. Every facet of the case, the hands and the indexes is designed to reflect even the smallest ray of light and to create countless combinations of light and shadow that change at each new angle. The Zaratsu polished mirror surfaces and hairline finishes combine perfectly. The dial’s texture is as delicate as the flower that inspires it. This is the crisp, clear, unique aesthetic that says “This is Grand Seiko”.

This 44GS 55th Anniversary watch is offered in a limited edition of 1,200. The words Limited Edition and the individual serial number are engraved on the case back alongside the lion which has been the emblem of Grand Seiko’s strength ever since was first presented in 1960.

Marking the end of Autumn at the moment when the frost first embraces the forest, SBGH295 Sōkō Frost is one of two new, US-exclusive Special Edition timepieces exploring the Japanese sekki. Featuring a fine texture that is inspired by the clear blue skies over the Sea of Japan in early winter, the kirazuri “ice blue” dial is a new interpretation of a dial first introduced in 2018. The 62GS case, reimagined from a timepiece launched in 1967, features a mirrored, multi-sided design and a wide, bezel-free dial opening. The case is finished via Grand Seiko’s renowned Zaratsu polishing technique.
